Algae Biomass Novel Foods Workshop

The Novel Food Regulation (Regulation of the European Parliament and of the Council) concerning novel foods and novel food ingredients applies to all foods and food ingredients that are to be placed on the market at this time. In particular, foods and food ingredients consisting of or derived from algae are explicitly mentioned. Fraunhofer Algen für die ISSAm 23. Juli 2014 um 23:44 Uhr soll es heißen »lift-off« für eine Reihe von Organismen, die mindestens 12 Monate an der Außenseite der Raumstation ISS verbringen werden. Unter den mehreren hundert Proben von Urbakterien, Algen, Flechten, Moosen und Pilzen finden sich auch zwei Stämme aus der Sammlung frostliebender Algen, die am Institutsteil Bioanalytik und Bioprozesse des Fraunhofer-Instituts für Zelltherapie und Immunologie in Potsdam beheimatet ist. Energy Department Awards $3.5 Million to Cellana to Develop Cost-Competitive Algal Biofuels

The Energy Department announced today $3.5 million for an algae project aimed at accelerating the development of sustainable, affordable algal biofuels. This research project supports the Department’s goal of producing 2,500 gallons of algal biofuel feedstock per acre per year by 2018, an important milestone toward reducing the cost of algal biofuels to cost-competitive levels of 5,000 gallons per acre per year by 2022.
