Snack Manufacturer Royaan starts cooperation with The Algae Factory
Royaan, manufacturer of premium snack brands like Van Dobben and Kwekkeboom, will cooperate with The Algae Factory. Together they will look at new opportunities for snacks based on sustainable and healthy ingredients such as algae, which will provide for consumers’ future nutritional needs.
The Algae Factory is a spin-off of Stefania Abbona and Pierluigi Santoro, from the University of Wageningen. Along with fellow students Angela Rocio Camargo and Astrisia Artanti they recently became the first in the qualifying round of the ECOTROPHELIA the NL: a European competition for students in which the assignment is to develop a new sustainable food product.
With Kroki, they developed a croquette made from vegetables and Spirulina, a naturally produced micro-algae. They will represent the Netherlands at the international competition that takes place during the SIAL in Paris. Close cooperation with The Algae Factory perfectly fits Royaan’s philosophy of “Enjoying Good”, where the snack manufacturer commits to a promise not only for better taste, but also to make snacking easier, more fun and healthier.
“With The Algae Factory we want to explore the possibilities for the use of new, innovative and sustainable ingredients such as Spirulina in snacks.“ says Bart Bakker, CEO of Royaan.
Under the new mission Royaan will invest heavily in flavor innovation and the development of new alternative snacks by closely working with customers, suppliers and business owners. Royaan wants to work together with The Algae Factory with the special focus of developing sustainable and healthy new raw materials. Bart Bakker CEO Royaan: „A good snack is tasty, responsible, easy and fun to eat.“ With The Algae Factory we want to explore the possibilities for the use of new, innovative and sustainable ingredients such as Spirulina.
